Shipping giants Maersk and MSC announce the end of their partnership.

The two largest shipping companies in the world announced that they would end their route and ship sharing partnership in 2025, as they would follow different strategies in the future.

This partnership had been agreed in 2015, and would have a minimum duration of 10 years. The underlying objective of the partnership was to ensure greater competitiveness in the cargo business between Asia and Europe, and also in trade in the Atlantic and Pacific regions.

The companies recognized that the commercial environment that led to the union in 2015 has changed, but also that the basis for the end of the alliance is the fact that the companies pursue different strategies for the future.

There will be no immediate impact to services during the phase out, according to the companies’ statement.
